The Guerrilla Girls

The Guerrilla Girls is an anonymous group of feminist activist artists. They have very specific way of expressing their ideas. They wear gorilla masks in public and use facts, humor and outrageous visuals to expose gender and ethnic bias as well as corruption in politics, art, film, and pop culture. They fight for discrimination and support human rights for all people and all genders.

In 1989, The Guerrilla Girls placed the poster illustrating the statistical data that less than 5% of artists included in Modern Art Sections were female, but more than 85% nudes are women. The interesting point they were trying to get across was the fact that it seems women needs to get naked to get into such prestige event.

This is one of the examples of their extraordinary art and certainly way to expose sexual and racial discrimination in the art world, particularly in New York, and in the wider cultural arena. I wonder what they think of the most recent Met Gala.
